| rewarding journeys that I have set my mind to. There is so much to know, so much you learn about yourself and so much that I still have to learn. It consumes much of your "free" time and takes away from your other commitments. I began my journey to the stage originally in 2002 when I saw fellow training buddies start competing and thought to myself... "I think I can do that!". One obstacle after another popped up which prevented me from completing a full training program. I got married in 2002, pregnant with my daughter who was born in 2003, my son was born in 2004, i was hospitalized with a cancer scare in 2005 which led to the removal of a tumor and my right kidney. And upon commencing training again, i injured my shoulder in late 2005. In 2006, I opened The Inner Athlete fitness studio. As we all know, owning a small business is much more work than you can ever imagine until you are doing it which again put my stage dreams on hold. After 4 years of business, I figured it was time to give it one more try. I guess the 5th time is the charm! I first sought out the expertise of my friends who compete/have competed. The sport of figure is a lot more complicated than it may appear. I was used to eating with a disciplined hand, but this take that notion to an extreme. Initially, I ate lots of salads, green veggies, lean meats, 1-2 servings of fruit daily, rice cakes, eliminated all added sugar and most dairy. This was the easy part. The diet restrictions grew as the show date came closer until my only veggie was asparagus and my choice of 3 lean proteins - none of which were not very tasty at that point! We can't forget the hair, make-up, posing suit, shoes, manicure, pedicure, etc.... All of these things are necessary to create the total package the judges are looking for. I entered into my first contest (the 14th Annual Silver and Black Muscle Classic - hosted by the Oakland Raiders) with hopes of just doing my best for me. I knew there were trophies to be had as well as possible other prizes, but for me, the goal was to actually get on stage and finally see my goal through. With God's favor, I came home with 3 trophies! I was named the winner of Ms. Figure Novice Tall, Ms. Figure Open and Overall Winner of Figure. This was an awesome experience and I do plan to do it again. In talking to the judges, I can improve on certain aspects, so I plan to show them an even better Alondra at my next appearance! I hope my story inspires people to make their dreams, aspirations and goals happen! You CAN do it. Even with all the odds against you, you can do it!
